Another Day/Another Day to be Hopeful

Susan Cwik

Another day started, another day to be hopeful that people come in. Yesterday was ok, three people came in so I didn’t have to talk to myself all day. I mean, I have interesting conversations with myself. So many topics are covered and I always agree with my position. However, it is nice to learn about other people.

We started yesterday with Chris, the farmer, and his 2 adorable little girls. He is an urban farmer who we will be partnering with for CSA deliveries. Anyway, he comes in carrying one little girl and the other walks in holding some papers. You can tell she is shy, I’d say she was around 4 years old, but after dad and I say a few words, I look at her and ask, “Are those for me?” In the most adorable way, she came forward, head down a bit, and hands me the brochures. After I take them, she quickly goes back to where she started ‘cause I’m a scary adult. Yep, very scary. A budding entrepreneur, she just doesn’t realize it yet.

A while later, one of the other business owners in our strip mall stopped by and I got caught up on her business and issues with our landlord. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I typically don’t have issues with them. It could be a matter of perspective. The last location I was in, in Wisconsin, was a very old building that the landlord just didn’t care about. We dealt with water leaks, scary electric, vermin, mold, and a whole host of other issues. The rent is much higher here, but they reconfigured the space how I wanted and we’ve had no issues.

My last distraction, erm, I mean, person who stopped in was a woman who just noticed we were here and wanted to see what we had to offer.

(Stopping here for a good song, turn up music, must chair dance) Ok, dance break over.

Anyhow, I both love and dislike people who just come in to browse. This is a learned love/hate relationship. Yes, I love that people come in. I hate when they say, “You have such a great store. There is so much here that I can get here now instead of ordering online. I’m not going to get anything today, but I’ll be back.” Ninety-nine percent of the time, these people have never returned. This is with being friendly; answering questions, explain how they can save money with us, blah, blah, blah. At least I had the opportunity to engage with another human. Somehow I am missing out on something, just not sure what IT is.

Now it is time to say goodbye to today’s blog. It is time to enter bills, pay sales tax, do social media (still not my favorite thing), and find other ways to fill my day. I’m sure there will be more chair dancing and riveting conversations, and shopping for sewing supplies.

Until then,

                Have a Healthy Day!
