Lack of Sleep/Pudding/Deluge
Share
Today has just been a very weird day. I haven’t been sleeping well this week for one reason or another. Gonna add some passionflower and lemon balm tonight to help me relax and fall asleep. I highly recommend. Since I didn’t sleep well, I was tired. After breakfast, since this is my late start day, I’m thinking I should go and try and close my eyes for just a bit. That didn’t last long as I remembered that I forgot to put out the cooler for the CSA delivery. Sigh! Now I’m awake and thinking I should just go to the store early. My lovely husband offered to go put it out instead so I didn’t have to rush out the door.
Seeing as the nap was going to be elusive I decided to make pudding. This is dessert of choice as I can make a multitude of flavors with just a little extract. Last week we had Rhum Vanilla and Cherry/Chocolate. This week is plain chocolate, caramel, and chocolate/caramel parfait. The combinations are endless. While making, of course, I spilled pudding everywhere and then hit my temple on the microwave door. Just having sooo much fun.
Luckily, when I got to the store things started to get a little better. A good song came on, Silk City & Dua Lipa “Electricity,” and I just started to get things done. Now it’s been very quiet today as we keep getting one deluge after another. Not just rain, a deluge. Like, can’t see through it to the other side of the parking lot deluge. They are calling for a flood warning and if you think the water might be too high on a street, it probably is and you shouldn’t drive through it. “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
Since I only have had one customer all day, I did the one thing most retailers don’t like to do but it is a necessity. I looked at each and every Best By date. This is both tedious and depressing. First, the Best By date is just the company’s best guess when a product may no longer be good. There is no science behind most of the dates and they are pretty meaningless. Next, each company puts them in a different place and it’s always fun turning bottles over and over and over and over trying to find the stupid date. Lastly, it’s depressing because most of that product gets thrown away. I can write it off to a certain extent, but ultimately, it gets thrown away. This leaves holes on the shelves which will then need to be filled. So, I lose money ‘cause I need to throw stuff away and then spend more money to fill in those empty spaces. That’s the depressing part.
Luckily, I have learned to be creative over the years. Make two rows of something, it fills in the space. Get out some flowers, it fills in the space and looks pretty. Have stuffies, make a little diorama. Just all the little things to make the store look full and inviting.
Deluge, deluge, you can go away now! I’m gonna need a boat to get home at this rate.
Luckily, it is almost time to go home. I will finish my expired products project tomorrow (say that 3x’s fast) and, hopefully, it won’t rain so much.
Until Next Time,
Have a Healthy Day
