We Always Keep Learning

Susan Cwik

Some of you know that we are remodeling our bathroom and it’s been an interesting project so far. We started with an old yucky tile wall that would never get clean no matter what you would do. I would scrub the orange, yellow, and black off only for it to return in a couple of days. It’s soooo gross! Along with a steel tub that no longer had a finish on it so it wouldn’t get clean either. We currently have bare wall where the tile was, the tub has been removed, and you can see a hole into the dirt where the drain pipes are.

He had so much fun taking the walls down and creating dust just everywhere. There was not a spot in that room that did not have a nice covering of tile and wall board dust. Are we having fun yet? Next up, trying out how to move the steel tub. I was going to be of no help what so ever. Luckily, the boy child decided to visit, he always seems to pick a time when we need help. Anyway, the two of them got the fun job of removing a steel tub and taking it to the dump, Reduce/Reuse/Recycle.

Having the walls down was creepy enough, now there is a hole right into the dirt. We are built on a slab ‘cause if you had a basement in Savannah you would end up with some kind of weird indoor pool. He had to cover that hole up. I did not want to think about what could burrow its way into our house. Nope, not gonna happen. Also, I don’t need the kitty getting curious. The last bathroom he put in there was part of the floor removed and when he went up to work on something, the cat came out of that hole. She just decided to go exploring amongst the inner workings of the house. Before he closed that floor we had to make sure we knew where the cat was. Thus, the hole MUST be covered until the shower base is installed.

As for the shower base, he doesn’t know how to put the drain system in. The instructions are for a house with access from below. We would need to dig a tunnel to have that kind of access. It was time for help and that help is coming from Drainage Daniel and the Drainage Department. Yes, they have an actual Drainage Department, who knew that even existed? So now we are waiting for Drainage Daniel to come up with the solution to our very important drainage issues. After all, it’s all about the flow.

You may be wondering, why is she telling us about her bathroom remodel? One, it’s an interesting experience I would like to share. Two, it demonstrates how we have to keep learning new things all the time. I didn’t know Drainage Departments were a thing or that there was a dirt hole under the tub. My husband is learning even more as he remodels this room.

None of us know everything and we need to rely on others to fill in the blanks, like Drainage Daniel. Even when we do know a lot about a certain subject, we can always learn new things. I know a lot about supplements but am learning new things all the time about products and manufacturing innovations. That’s one of the amazing things about life, constantly learning.

Keep you minds open to new things, ideas, and processes. You never know when something new really helps you out, and, if you have a cat, know where they are. They are sneaky little critters.

            Until next time,

                        Have a Healthy Day
